The politics of 2015 has already begun in earnest

While we are here shouting ourselves hoarse on who should be next
president of nigeria or governor of our states, grassroots mobilization
has already began by the top contenders.

Learning from the success of fayose at the polls with his door-to-door campaigns
which he carried it out with much vigour and tenacity as opposed to fayemi's  deafening
noise on conventional and social media which didnt deliver him a
second term, the pdp has already began deft moves to soften the ground
by its grassroots mobilization efforts.

This reality dawned on me yesterday when a friend dragged me to a place
around my area where labour and pdp party members were gathered in different
parts of an open field of one of the public secondary schools there.
Well, the gist is that this friend of mine happened to have come in contact
with one women leader of pdp in my area who was compiling names of would be
beneficiaries of a loan facility being made available by her party, he got
rewarded by his name being added too for asking questions as he noticed she was
receiving numerous phone calls from people asking to be added to the
list, she even allowed him add two other names of his choice. I'm
informed that the loan facility which ranges from a minimum of 50k to
a maximum of 600k has already recorded its first set of beneficiaries
a week before; those of yesterday would be the second. I've already
congratulated my friend on his good fortune, he even promised adding
me if another catch becomes feasible (rolling my eyes).
This is clearly another political move considering its timing as it is coming a few
months to elections, what were they waiting for all this time?

On my way home, I was in for more enlightenment on the situation of things
preparatory to 2015 when I branched at a cobbler's shop where I met a
full house of people discussing political developments in the state.
One of the boys there was telling everyone who cared to listen how he
got the contract to paste buhari's posters around my area a few weeks
back and how he is getting ready to mobilize his boys for the coming
elections on a cash and carry basis.

From the discussions that took place there, I couldn’t help coming to the conclusion
that next year's elections would be determined by which of the candidates has the most
desire to win and ready to break the vault to achieve that desire.
The common man on the streets wants to get his own dividends upfront
from the politicians before they disconnect from them and treat them
like a piece of filthy rags when they ascend into power. This
is the reality of things on ground, though a really sad one at that.
