Shouldn't educational qualifications be considered a factor in our choice of president in 2015?

In less than two months from now,we would be voting to elect our
choice candidate as president for a four year period. Already two main
contenders have emerged; the incumbent, goodluck ebele jonathan of the
pdp and muhammadu buhari of the apc.

A cursory look at the profile of
these two candidates readily reveals that GEJ has a doctorate
degree(highest degree of any tertiary institution),while a GMB can
only boast of a secondary school leaving certificate and some military
training thereafter in the army to his credit.

While some are of the view that educational qualifications have little
to do with good governance
since the president gets a wide range of opinions and reports from
competent hands who are masters of their fields or professions but on
a personal note,i feel a bit uncomfortable having us contemplate at
all the revisiting of a past era where school certificate holders were
presented for
presidential elections. We've upped the ante from yaradua/goodluck era
and as such i think such standards should be maintained or even
bettered if possible.

Some may argue that buhari has been head of state once and as such has
the experience, but hello, this is 2014 and not 1983; the world has
really moved on with new set of challenges and even newer strategies
and ways of tackling them, and even so,it was
widely acknowledged that a buhari relied heavily on his number two
man, chief of army staff, tunde idiagbon in taking very major and
critical decisions. This fact clearly showed his inadequacy and
weakness as a HOS,a fact which IBB exploited when planning his take
over via a coup. It was even revealed recently by the same IBB that
buhari never passed any advanced professional qualifications/exams
while in the army;this is yet to be refuted and i find this pretty
worrisome if you ask me cos irrespective of how many advisers or
informed opinions he can get on an issue if elected as president,he
will still have to view things holistically before arriving at a
decision as the bucks stops at his table. Imagine just recently,he
even boasted that
he could stabilize world oil prices, pray how he intends to single-
handedly achieve that? Is this not showing his lack of understanding
of the issues behind the fall of oil prices?

My conclusion is
this, half education is no education at all,as such i would feel
comfortable having someone having a higher qualifications at the helms
of power than someone who has little education cos arguing to the
contrary is like saying it's a waste of time acquiring  higher
qualifications in the first place, which can
never be true!
